When Jessica Meir floated outside the International Space Station in October 2019, she wasn’t just conducting maintenance—she was helping make history.
Before becoming an astronaut, Meir was a marine biologist and physiologist, studying how animals survive in extreme environments. That same curiosity would later take her beyond Earth aboard Soyuz MS-15.

Alongside Christina Koch, Meir participated in the first all-female spacewalk, repairing a critical power unit on the ISS. This milestone wasn’t just symbolic—it demonstrated capability, readiness, and the normalization of women in high-stakes space operations.
During her mission, Meir contributed to research including:
Her work supports the long-term sustainability of human spaceflight.
Meir often described Earth as “a shared home without boundaries,” reinforcing the importance of global collaboration—both in space and on the ground.

Meir is also part of NASA’s Artemis Program, positioning her among the astronauts who could help shape humanity’s return to the Moon.
